Quick answer

To change HEIC to JPG, open Zappy HEIC to JPG, add up to 30 HEIC photos and click Convert to JPG. Each photo downloads as a JPG, or you can take them all as one ZIP. It works on Windows, Mac, Chromebook and phones, needs no account, and your photos never leave your device.

How to change HEIC to JPG in 3 steps

This is the quickest way on any computer, and the only one that converts a whole batch in one go without extra software.

  1. Add your HEIC photos

Open HEIC to JPG and drag your photos in, or choose them. You can add up to 30 at once, 50MB each.

  2. Pick JPG and a quality

JPG is selected already. High quality looks the same as the original; Medium and Small make lighter files for email and upload forms.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert to JPG. Download each photo on its own, or grab them all as a ZIP.

✅
Your photos stay private. The conversion runs inside your browser, so family photos and pictures of ID documents never reach a server.

Why iPhone photos are HEIC, and why JPG still matters

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC, a format that keeps the same quality in roughly half the space of a JPG. That is good for your phone's storage, but many Windows programs, Android apps and upload forms still reject HEIC or show a blank preview.

JPG opens everywhere, which is why changing photos from HEIC to JPG is usually the fix when a job portal, DMV site or insurance form says the file type is not supported.

How to convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac or MacBook Air

Every Mac, including a MacBook Air, can convert HEIC to JPG with no extra software. The fastest built-in way is a Quick Action:

  1. In Finder, select one or more HEIC photos.
  2. Right-click and choose Quick Actions > Convert Image.
  3. Set the format to JPEG, pick an image size and click Convert to JPEG.

The JPGs appear next to the originals. Quick Actions are available in recent versions of macOS. On older versions, open the photo in Preview, choose File > Export and set the format to JPEG. From the Photos app, select the pictures and use File > Export with JPEG as the photo kind.

How to change HEIC to JPG on Windows 10 and 11

Windows can open HEIC photos once Microsoft's HEIF and HEVC extensions are installed from the Microsoft Store. The HEVC extension usually costs a small fee. With both installed, open the photo in the Photos app or Paint and use Save as to choose JPG.

That works one photo at a time. To change a folder of iPhone photos at once without installing anything, use HEIC to JPG in Edge or Chrome and download them all as a ZIP.

How to stop your iPhone taking HEIC photos

If you would rather not convert at all, switch the camera format:

  1. Open Settings and tap Camera.
  2. Tap Formats.
  3. Choose Most Compatible.

New photos are saved as JPG from then on; photos you already took stay HEIC. You can also go to Settings > Photos and set Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic, so photos are converted when you copy them to a computer with a cable.

💡
When you share a photo by email or Messages, iOS often sends a JPG automatically. HEIC files usually turn up when photos are copied to a computer, AirDropped to a Mac or exported from iCloud.

Google Drive, Chromebook and Android

Google Drive and Chromebooks can preview HEIC photos, but neither has a simple way to save them as JPG. Download the photos, then convert them in HEIC to JPG in Chrome. The same works on an Android phone when an iPhone user sends you HEIC files.

How to convert HEIC to JPG in bulk

Add up to 30 photos per batch and download them together as one ZIP, then run another batch for more. There is no daily limit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change HEIC to JPG for free?

Open Zappy HEIC to JPG, add your photos and click Convert to JPG. Each one downloads as a JPG, or all of them as a ZIP. It is free, needs no account and nothing is uploaded.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on a MacBook Air?

Select the photos in Finder, right-click and choose Quick Actions, then Convert Image, and set the format to JPEG. On older macOS, open the photo in Preview and use File, then Export.

How do I change HEIC to JPG on Windows 11?

Install the HEIF and HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store, open the photo in Photos or Paint and save it as JPG. To convert many photos without installing anything, use Zappy HEIC to JPG in your browser.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

Very little at the High setting; the photo looks the same on screen and in print. The JPG file will be larger than the HEIC, because JPG is a less efficient format.

How do I make my iPhone take JPG photos?

Go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are saved as JPG; existing ones stay HEIC.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Add up to 30 photos per batch and download them together as one ZIP. There is no daily limit.

Why won't a HEIC file convert?

It may be damaged, only partly copied, or a Live Photo video clip rather than the still picture. Export the photo again from the Photos app and convert the new copy.

Are my photos uploaded when I convert them?

No. Zappy decodes HEIC photos inside your browser, so they never leave your device.
